Resources & Links

A list of various film photography and Nikon F6 resources/pages of interest. After a long period of dormancy this page has been updated to remove dead links. It’s kind of a shame, too… some of the links – like Sover Wong’s site – are valuable resources for the F2 enthusiast… I’m reaching out to Sover to see if there’s an updated link.

Support for Film Photography in General:

Since the F6 Project launched in 2009 there continues to be a major resurgence in film photography. Evidenced across a wide array of sources such as photography giant Kodak jumping back in after restructuring; Ilford’s continued, growing and steadfast commitment to the art of film photography; new players like Film Ferrania, the Impossible Project, and legions of devoted film junkies literally around the world – I think it’s safe to say that film has survived a challenging time, but is here to stay. Countless independent, grass roots web sites have emerged, like emulsive.org – their sole purpose to promote the continued use of film and connect the world-wide film shooting community. With that in mind I’m delighted  to build the resources page to include some of these wonderful efforts. If you’ve found this section and I have not yet heard about your film photography related project please let me know!

EMULSIVE:
EMULSIVE is a space for film photographers of all ages and backgrounds to share their knowledge, experience and thoughts about everything related to film photography. We review film stocks and film cameras, publish essays and photo stories; and are the home of the EMULSIVE Interview, a series of interviews with film photographers the world over – 104 at the time of writing! We also get involved with and help support various film related events such as Holga Week 2016, #FP4Party, The EMULSIVE Secret Santa (now in year two), and Expired Film Day 2016. You can probably best describe us as reasonable advocates of film.

SHOOT FILM CO:
Shoot Film Co. is one guy–me–named Mike Padua. I created Shoot Film Co. as an outlet to celebrate the culture of traditional film photography, the artists creating work with film, and to create long lasting mementos that let us express our love for the stuff we get excited about.

I’ve been a photographer for longer than I can remember, shooting film since the 90’s and opened up this shop in 2015 because I wanted to create patches, stickers, and other accessories for film photographers that combine my love for graphic design and film photography, and that I would personally use. Thanks for checking out Shoot Film Co. and all the analog gear we have to offer. All your items are packed and shipped by me, backed by copious amounts of caffeine and love, from San Francisco, CA.

GRAYS OF WESTMINSTER
If you’re going to purchase the finest 35mm Nikon film camera ever made, there can be no more poetic purchase experience than that of Grays of Westminster. Grays of Westminster is the multi-award-winning Nikon-only shop founded in London over a quarter century ago by Mr. Gray Levett, with the idea of creating a world-class camera store, offering breadth and depth of the finest photographic equipment – and service second to none. When you’re ready to purchase your Nikon F6 give Grays of Westminster a call. Their reputation – and reach – is world wide. Nikon prepares to strengthen digital line-up for 2006
Wednesday January 11, 2006
Following the success of our digital line-up over the last seven years, which has resulted in more than 95% of Nikon’s UK business being within the digital area, Nikon Corporation has made the decision to focus management resources on digital cameras in place of film cameras. This decision will allow Nikon to continue to develop products that match the demands of an increasingly competitive market place (more)…

Specialties and Niche’s:

BLUE HOUR & NIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY
Have you ever wanted to create beautiful night photos but it was completely dark when you found the right spot and subject? Well the bluehoursite.com web site will help you by calculating the best time frame for taking stunning blue hour pictures. If you don’t know what is “blue hour” then you’re in the right place. It refers to the time after the sun goes below the horizon and the sky goes into deep blue for a while. This is the best timing to take photos. You can learn more about this in the articles section by reading the tutorials.

Guru’s and other Notables:

Joe McNally’s Blog
This guy is a genius and a hoot. Pick up his book, The Hot Shoe Diaries to really take your CLS flash shooting to the next level. Full of interesting antecdotes, useful insights, and “this is how I made this image” kind of talk. His language is a bit rough around the edges; you’ve been warned.

Strobist
David Hobby is a flash genius and a pretty good writer to boot. His Strobist blog is incredibly informative and worth subscribing to.

Moose Peterson
Nikon F6 User Report Moose uses a lot of exclamation marks when he writes, but he’s sure a great shooter and has lots of interesting tips and tricks on all kinds of different things.

Scott Kelby
Scott teaches Photoshop & Photography and is Editor-in-Chief for Photoshop User magazine and hosts shows at kelbytv.com.

Forums and On-Line Info-bases:

Popular Photo Tips and Guides at Photo Tips Galore. Ed Major has been a photographer ever since receiving his first SLR camera for his 21st birthday. In those days it was a 35mm film camera long before digital SLR cameras were invented. He has been a keen amateur for more years than he’d like to own up to and learned a lot about photography often the hard way. He wants to help you learn faster and not make the same mistakes.

PHOTOZONES: “Photography Beyond Paradigms” is their tag line. “A global community of passionate photographers.” Wow. Who wouldn’t want to visit a site that was a globabl community of passionate photographers” Well, it seems some of their content is available to everyone. But for full access it’s a pay-model. $25 for 6 months, $40 for 12 months, or you can roll the dice and go for a “Lifetime” membership for $250. I don’t know anything about them – but found them while chasing down a link to Bjorn’s old site above. Looks and sounds interesting. Let me know how it goes.

photo.net: not quite as inflamatory as some of the other sites (like dpreview), photo.net is a great community of shooters of the f6 and so many other flavors, you’re bound to grow in your photography there.
